Using YouTube Poll and Donation Cards

Today on Video Marketing Madness – Using YouTube Poll and Donation Cards

YouTube Cards work on both mobile and desktop. They are in the “edit” function. You get an option menu and you can use up to 5 cards.

Options include a website link and image, link to another video or playlist. New functions include donations and polls.

Donations – From YouTube, “If you’re a United States, IRS-validated, 501(c)3 public nonprofit, you can add donation cards to your videos. Viewers can use these cards to make donations directly to your nonprofit organization. Viewers can make donations directly to a nonprofit organization using their credit card. Our partner, Network For Good, a U.S. nonprofit donor advised fund, then distributes the funds to the organization at the end of each month.”

Polls provide interactivity. “If you can hear me, respond with yes.” Condition viewers to say yes. Ask fun, silly questions to keep viewers engaged. If it’s a how to video, ask viewers what they know, or what do they want next.

Lighting Tips for Video

Today on Video Marketing Madness – Lighting Tips for Video

All of these are available at B & H Photo and Video. They have the best selection and prices unless otherwise denoted.

When you’re using smaller digital cameras (like an iPhone), you need more lighting. So be sure to use external lights.

Here are some options for around $200:

  • · LED lighting. Very even light and you can dim without an issue

Ninja tactics (not expensive):

  • The long thin bulbs you see over garage work benches. Same as the professional lights but for a faction of the cost at Home Depot or Lowes. Be sure to diffuse by point at the white ceiling. Or use Tough Spun sheets. B&H has them
  • The large curlicue 500 watt screw in fluorescent lights. They don’t get hot and are daylight balanced. Very inexpensive at Home Depot or Lowes. By the stands at B&H

Setting up 3 or 4 point lighting:

  • Key – just about straight on but at 1 o’clock from the users face
  • Fill – off to the side
  • Overhead Back – to define head and shoulders
  • Background – point at the background. Needed for green screening

Ninja tip. Buy a fake plant like a bush. Point light at background and put tree in front of it. Cool effect but not for green screening

Microphones for Video

All of these are available at B & H Photo and Video. They have the best selection and prices unless otherwise denoted.

Field Mics. Use a lapel mic. A mic that plugs into your camera is best. Know your camera connection so you get the right stuff. Audio Technica has a good lapel mic for $40. KV Technologies has adaptors for smartphones. Ray sells a really good smartphone mic at PocketVideoPro.com

If you go wireless, you need to spend about $300 so you don’t get interference from other devises. This is especially important in the field.

Hand held mics work too – wireless and wired

Shotgun mic – Ray likes Azden.

Podcasting, screen captures and voice over work. Blue makes very good USB mics that plug into your computer. (Blue Yeti, Snowball, etc.). Their mics average $100 – ready to go

If you want a professional broadcast mic, be prepared to spend $750.00 to $2000.00 for the mic and processing gear. Brands include Heil, EV and Shure. Go to Broadcast Supply for these mics.

Live videos on Periscope, Snapchat, etc. are smartphones. You can use the earpiece as a mic.

List an example, then give the cost and if you can, provide a guarantee with a sense of urgency. . Create lots of answer videos for the backend of the website.

Misc. Stuff: Use YouTube Cards with timely offers and swap them out as needed. Use YouTube Ads. Create coupon related ad videos for Facebook. Do retargeting videos and email videos.
